We booked two nights at Aurora Dome ourselves in August 2026, paid full price, and stayed the entire time — this review reflects that stay. Nothing here was gifted or sponsored.

The setting

Aurora Dome sits on a forested slope about forty minutes north of Whistler village, reached by a gravel forestry road that turns most cars back after dark — worth knowing before you book if you’re arriving late. The dome itself is tucked into a small clearing with just enough tree cover to feel private without blocking the sky.

“The best part wasn’t the hot tub or the heating — it was lying in bed at 11pm watching the sky through the skylight with zero light pollution.”

The stay

Inside, the dome is one open room: a queen bed facing the front glass wall, a small kitchenette, a wood-burning stove, and a bathroom with a proper walk-in shower — not the composting-toilet setup some “luxury” domes still use. Heating was more than enough for a cool August night, and the owners mentioned it holds up through winter, too.

Food & amenities

No on-site restaurant — this is a self-catering setup, with a small grocery run needed in Whistler village beforehand. The kitchenette covers the basics (induction cooktop, mini fridge, kettle), and there’s a propane BBQ on the deck next to the hot tub.

Price & booking

We paid $320/night for a mid-August weeknight stay, booked directly through the owner’s website rather than a third-party platform. Rates rise on weekends and drop slightly in shoulder season (May and September).

What we liked

  • Genuinely dark skies, no light pollution
  • Real shower, not a composting toilet setup
  • Private hot tub with mountain views

Worth knowing

  • Gravel access road, check conditions before dark
  • Self-catering only, no meals provided
  • No cell signal on-site — download maps ahead

Our verdict

Aurora Dome delivers on the two things that actually matter for a dome stay: real dark-sky views and a comfortable night’s sleep. It’s not cheap, but for a couple’s weekend away from Vancouver or Whistler, it’s one of the stronger dome properties we’ve stayed at so far.
